Euro 2024 has got off to a lively start, with the first four games of the tournament producing 16 goals, an average of four per fixture. Hosts Germany have been the stand-out performers so far thanks to their thrashing of Scotland in the opening game, although Spain laid down a marker in a 3-0 win against 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Croatia on Saturday, when Switzerland and Italy also posted victories over Hungary and Albania respectively.

Euro 2024 fixtures on Sunday 16 June

Group D

  • Poland vs Netherlands - Volkparkstadion, Hamburg - 9 a.m. ET / 6 a.m. PT

Group C

  • Slovenia vs Denmark - MHP Arena, Stuttgart - 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT
  • Serbia vs England - Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen - 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT

Netherlands hope to steal a march on Poland before France meeting

For decades, the Netherlands were regularly tipped to challenge for international trophies, but have only ever lifted the European Championship in 1988. Expectations have been lower in recent tournaments, although they are considered by some as dark horses.

With France also in Group D, the Dutch will be keen to get to a fast start against Poland at Volkparkstadion in Hamburg (kick-off at 9 a.m. ET / 6 a.m. PT) to ensure they have no problems reaching the last 16.

Denmark open against Slovenia as they bid for Euro 2020 repeat

Group C will then get going, with 2020 semi-finalists Denmark facing Slovenia at MHPArena in Stuttgart (kick-off at 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT).

After a poor showing at the 2022 World Cup, there is considerably less hype surrounding the Danes this time around, although they will still be expected to defeat Slovenia, playing in their first major tournament since 2010, and potentially finish second in the group behind England.

Much-fancied England face debutants Serbia

Serbia will hope to challenge for Denmark for a place in the round of 16, although they have a complicated tournament history in recent times. Since the breakup of Yugoslavia and their separation from Montenegro in 2006, the Serbs had never qualified for the European Championship until this year, despite featuring in three of the last four World Cups.

They face the toughest start possible in Group C. With Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden all coming off the back of superb seasons, England are expected to reach the latter stages of the tournament and perhaps even lift silverware for the first time in almost 60 years.
