PSG
Who will be the next PSG coach? Mourinho, Gallardo, Motta, Luis Enrique...
Galtier looks set to depart PSG in the summer.
A year after appointing Christophe Galtier to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, PSG are once again looking for a new coach. Galtier, who has just won the Ligue 1 title, will be sacked if PSG find the right man for the job.
Those closest to Galtier, speaking to L’Équipe, believe his time in Paris is about to come to an end. However, the current PSG coach sees himself as a legitimate candidate to prolong his adventure in the French capital, but he is aware that it is not up to him and that the directors are not satisfied with his work.
Mourinho
There are many names in the running to succeed him in the dugout. The first is José Mourinho. The Roma coach, immersed in the final of the Europa League, is the coach wanted by sporting advisor Luis Campos. The two have a very cordial relationship, and worked together at Real Madrid. Mourinho, according to L’Équipe, will accept the role if he receives an offer.
There are two obstacles to Mourinho’s possible arrival at the Parisian club: his friendship with Luis Campos and the sovereignty of the sporting adviser when it comes to appointing the new coach. The great relationship between the two could be affected on a day-to-day basis, so it is not yet certain that PSG will send him an offer. Qatar, on the other hand, could take over the reins when it comes to choosing the coach, as they gave full power to Campos a year ago and the choice of Galtier has not had the desired result on the banks of the River Seine.
Gallardo
In addition to Mourinho, the figure of Marcelo Gallardo appears on the horizon. After leaving River Plate in style, the Argentine coach is taking some time to consider the various offers in European football. Although his preference is the Premier League, a call from PSG could make him change his mind.
Luis Enrique on the shortlist
Luis Enrique has been another coach who has been approached by PSG recently. The Asturian coach, who has not been in a job since leaving the Spanish national team after the World Cup, has attracted the unanimous support of both Qatar and Luis Campos. The club considers him to be the ideal man to bring the dressing room together to win the Champions League, a competition he knows what it is like to win after a stint with Barcelona.
Motta
Thiago Motta, Nasser Al Khelaïfi’s favourite, is also on PSG’s radar. Motta, who knows first-hand what the PSG dressing room is like after six seasons at the club, is also the subject of interest from Napoli as a possible successor to Luciano Spalletti, and OGC Nice, who are looking for a coach. However, his lack of experience at Champions League level could derail any attempt to sign him.
The last of the coaches who could succeed Galtier is Abel Ferreira. Luis Campos considers the Brazilian to be a courageous, tough coach with the ability to turn PSG’s current situation around. However, the Palmeiras coach is not a very advanced alternative and would not have the support of Qatar, who are looking for a more experienced profile that aspires to compete with PSG in the Champions League.
