Julian Nagelsmann has turned down the chance to become PSG’s new head coach, as reported by French outlet L’Équipe.

The former Bayern Munich coach and PSG were in talks for weeks over the managerial position, however, both parties have decided to call off the move.

Thierry Henry was linked with becoming Nagelsmann’s assistant with the Ligue 1 champions, but the former Arsenal forward pulled out of the deal, while Nagelsmann’s previous number two, Dino Toppmöller, has been appointed head coach of Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

The dismissal of current boss Christophe Galtier will not be made official until PSG have a replacement in place at the Parc des Princes.

With just three weeks before the first-team squad returns to training ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, Les Parisiens are now under more pressure to reach an agreement with their next head coach.

What next for PSG?

PSG are now heading into more talks as they look to appoint Galtier’s successor in their ever-changing dugout.

L’Équipe add that one of the following three coaches have held positive talks with the club: Luis Enrique, Xabi Alonso, or Thiago Motta.

Former Spain boss Luis Enrique had been linked to the Napoli job, however, Rudi Garcia has taken over at the Italian champions, meaning the man from Asturias remains a possibility to work alongside sporting advisor Luís Campos.

Alonso set to stay in Germany

Xabi Alonso’s strong start to life at German club Bayer Leverkusen is expected to continue, while former PSG man Thiago Motta remains an outsider.

River Plate legend Marcelo Gallardo has also been mentioned regarding the role in Paris, but the successful Argentine tactician looks set to join fellow French outfit Marseille instead.

It remains to be seen who will succeed Galtier at PSG.
