The USMNT now know their 2023 Gold Cup group-stage opponents, after the draw for the CONCACAF tournament was held on Friday.

The USMNT, who were drawn in Group A, will face Jamaica, Nicaragua and a still-to-be-confirmed prelim-stage winner in the round-robin phase.

The four possible prelim qualifiers that could go into the Stars and Stripes’ group are Curaçao, St Kitts & Nevis, French Guiana and Sint Maarten.

The USMNT head into this summer’s Gold Cup as defending champions, having won the tournament for the seventh time in their history when they beat Mexico in the final of the 2021 edition.

Could Jamaica finish above US in Group A?

Jamaica are likely to offer the stiffest group-stage test to Anthony Hudson’s men. Indeed, the Reggae Boyz could even challenge the US for top spot in Group A, given some of the impressive displays they have offered up in recent times.

At the end of March, the Jamaicans picked up a particularly notable result when they held Mexico to a 2-2 away draw in the CONCACAF Nations League.

When is the 2023 Gold Cup?

Staged in the US and Canada, the 2023 Gold Cup is to be held from 24 June to 16 July, with the final to be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
