Spain won this 2024 Euros after a thrilling match against England, which ended 2-1 to the Spanish thanks to a late Oyarzabal goal. Luis de la Fuente’s team was destined to rise once again to European greatness after 12 years and lift the trophy at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, becoming the first team in Euros history to win all seven games they played in the same competition.

What’s more, this Euros made more history, this time regarding the Golden Boot Award given to the tournament’s top scorer. Spain’s victory over England, in which neither Harry Kane nor Dani Olmo scored, marks the first time in history that six players will share the award.

What happens if more than one player is top scorer?

UEFA changed the parameters for the Golden Boot Award. In past editions, the tiebreaker was the player’s assists and, as a second criterion, the player with the fewest minutes played throughout the tournament would claim the award.

However, for the first time in Euros history, only the goals matter. This means the six players tied for the first spot will share the Golden Boot Award.

Euro 2024 top 10 goal scorers

Let’s take a look at the top scorers of the tournament:

  • Dani Olmo (Spain): 3 goals
  • Harry Kane (England): 3 goals
  • Georges Mikautadze (Georgia): 3 goals
  • Ivan Schranz (Slovakia): 3 goals
  • Jamal Musiala (Germany): 3 goals
  • Cody Gakpo (Netherlands): 3 goals

  • Fabián Ruiz (Spain): 2 goals
  • Jude Bellingham (England): 2 goals.
  • Niclas Füllkrug (Germany): 2 goals.
  • Nico Williams (Spain): 2 goals

How many own goals were scored at Euro 2024?

If we see it from another perspective, the 2024 Euros top scorer doesn’t have a single name or just one shirt because there were ten own goals throughout the tournament. Seven were scored in the group stage, two in the round of 16, and one in the quarterfinals.

However, this is not the Euros with the most own goals. During the 2021 edition, which saw Italy lifting the trophy against England in another final where football chose not to come home, 11 own goals were scored throughout the tournament, the highest to date.
