Marcus Rashford came off the bench to win the game for Manchester United as they beat Wolves in the early Premier League kickoff on Saturday.

Rashford scored with a fine finish after linking up with Bruno Fernandes to give United the lead at Molineux. He then scored a second but it was later ruled out for handball as United looked to extend their lead against Julen Lopetegui’s struggling Wolves.

Speaking ahead of the game, United boss Erik ten Hag said he left Rashford on the bench for “internal disciplinary” reasons.

Rashford sleeps in

Speaking after the 1-0 victory, Rashford told reporter Des Kelly of BT Sport that he overslept and was “a little bit late for a meeting” and that is why he started the game on the bench despite being on a great run of form for United.

Rashford has scored 12 Premier League goals as a substitute with only Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (17) and Javier Hernández (14) netting more from the bench for United in the competition, according to Opta.

Ten Hag, since joining the club, has not been afraid to drop and suspend players who don’t follow his rules at Old Trafford.

The win over Wolves moved United into the top four of the Premier League.
