REAL MADRID-JUVENTUS

Why did Real Madrid wear different shirt numbers against Juventus?

The design of the numbers worn by Carlo Ancelotti’s side has never been seen before but the reason was the charitable initiative Common Goal.

Real Madrid and Juventus unite for Common Goal

Real Madrid fans will have noticed something different in the player’s strips during the game against Juventus. When Carlo Ancelotti’s side took to the pitch, many people commented on the strange design of the numbers on the back of the players’ shirts. Far from the black lettering that corresponds to Madrid’s third kit this season, the one used against Juventus was a colorful alternative.

The answer is that the shirt used Real Madrid during the game is a limited edition for collectors that was a one-off for the Juventus game in support of the club’s cooperation agreement with Common Goal, the charity project set up by former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, which asks active players to donate 1% of their wages to a collective fund that supports football charities around the world. Juventus also changed their numbers for the occasion and both clubs will auction off one of the match-worn shirts for the fund.
