Leeds United take on Southampton in the EFL Championship playoff final on Sunday, with a place in the Premier League at stake for the winner. And fans of the Yorkshire club have been left somewhat surprised by a message of support ahead of the game from Paris Hilton, as well as Will Ferrell.

Ferrell’s Leeds United link

“I just want you to know that everyone at Leeds United is so excited, we know you can do it, we know you can pull through. Let’s go boys, let’s go!” was Ferrell’s video message, which many did see coming.

The Hollywood actor recently became the latest in a long line of household names to invest in Leeds, becoming a “limited partner” at the club, which was taken over by San Francisco-based 49er Enterprises last year.

Fellow actor Russell Crowe, PGA Tour stars Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas and fellow act Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps are also minority investors.

Paris Hilton sends Leeds best wishes before Championship playoff final

What nobody foresaw, however, was Hilton’s involvement. “Hey guys, it’s Paris,” the 43-year-old began. “Just wanted to leave this message for you guys and say good luck with your game this weekend. I’ll be rooting for you wearing my jersey!”

Yes, Paris Hilton, it seems, does have a Leeds United jersey. As it stands, however, nobody is quite sure why.

Why is Dustin Hoffman at the Leeds - Southampton Championship playoff final?

There had been some speculation as to whether Ferrell would make his first appearance at a Leeds game, although the “Elf” actor hasn’t ultimately made the trip to London.

One man who was at Wembley, though, was Dustin Hoffman. The two-time Oscar winner was seen in the stands ahead of the game, which also left fans bemused.

The 86-year-old has no known links with either of the two teams, although the “Rain Man” star has been blamed online for the miserable weather for the Championship playoff final, deemed “the richest game in soccer”.
