Why has Manchester United told David de Gea not to join another club?
According to reports, Manchester United has requested that David de Gea refrain from joining another club.
The goalkeeper, who is 32 years old, had his contract at Old Trafford ended on Friday. As a result, he is now considered a free agent. However, Manchester United is still hopeful that he will not join another club.
Erik ten Hag decided to withdraw the previously agreed wage reduction proposal for David De Gea, which would have reduced his weekly salary from $475,000 to $254,000. As a result, De Gea is currently uncertain about what lies ahead for him.
Why has United asked De Gea to wait on joining another club?
As Mason Mount’s deal with United becomes a reality, the club’s budget has been slashed in half, and thus the options of signing another top-level keeper in addition to other players have reduced significantly.
It is worth noting that De Gea’s position as the seventh-highest appearance holder for Manchester United is quite significant, with a total of 545 appearances to his name. This fact adds to the shock surrounding United’s treatment of him.
De Gea currently holds the club’s all-time clean sheet record with 181 clean sheets, surpassing Peter Schmeichel. He achieved this milestone during the Carabao Cup final victory against Newcastle United. De Gea won his fifth trophy at the club in February at Wembley, having joined in 2011.
De Gea’s contract discussions and talks about his future will be temporarily put on hold as he prepares to marry his partner, Edurne Garcia, this weekend.
