Why has USMNT captain Tyler Adams’ transfer to Premier League club Chelsea fallen through?

The Stamford Bridge side are also interested in Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo, who has rejected a move to Liverpool.

USMNT captain Tyler Adams’ move from Leeds United, with whom he was relegated from the Premier League last season, to Chelsea had looked to be a done deal but will now not be happening, as reported by a number of sources in the United Kingdom.

Chelsea trigged Adams’ release clause

The Blues, now managed by Mauricio Pochettino, had triggered the midfielder’s $25.5 million release clause earlier this week, and Adams had travelled to London to complete the move, with “personal terms not expected to be an issue”, as claimed by The Athletic.

Talks break down amid Caicedo’s Blues links

However, the same media outlet have stated that the transfer had “hit a snag”, with British broadcaster Sky Sports similarly reporting that “talks had broken down” with the two parties “unable to reach an agreement”.

The news comes just hours after it was revealed that Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo had rejected a British-record £111 million move to Liverpool as he has his heart set on a move to Chelsea, who have been linked with the Ecuadorian all summer but have submitted a lower bid for him, thought to be around £100 million.

Adams’s Leeds to face Tom Brady and Birmingham City

Simply a coincidence, or will we actually get four when we put two and two together this time? Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also revealed that the American had already done his medical at Stamford Bridge and done everything but put pen to paper.

Adams will now return to Leeds, where he still has four years remaining on his contract, ahead of their second English Championship fixture of the season against Tom Brady’s Birmingham City on Saturday.
