Why isn’t Christian Pulisic playing for AC Milan against Roma in Serie A today?
USMNT star Pulisic has excelled in Italy and the Champions League this season but won’t play again until 2025.
Christian Pulisic has been one of the players of the season for AC Milan in Serie A in Italy, although the USMNT star will end 2024 on a disappointing note by missing the Rossoneri’s final game of the year at home to Roma on Sunday (December 29).
Christian Pulisic suffers new injury
The former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea attacker has sat out Milan’s last three games after suffering a calf tear in the first half of the defeat to league leaders Atalanta on December 6. There had been hope Pulisic would feature before New Year, only for the American to suffer a new injury in the run-up to the Roma matchup.
“I expected to have Pulisic,” revealed Milan coach Paulo Fonseca in his prematch press conference on Saturday. “He is fine, he has recovered from his calf problem, but in the last two days he has had an ankle problem. It has arisen in the recovery process, and he is not ready to play tomorrow, not even for the bench”.
Why isn’t Yunus Musah playing for Milan against Roma?
Disappointingly for USMNT fans, compatriot Yunus Musah is also unavailable due to the unspecified muscle issue that has kept him out of the last two games. Also sidelined for Milan are winger Rafael Leão and midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as well as long-term absentees Alessandro Florenzi, Luka Jovic, and Ismael Bennacer. Striker Álvaro Morata is a doubt due to illness.
Pulisic has been a bright spot in what has been a disappointing season for Milan so far. The American has scored five goals and assisted five more in 14 Serie A appearances, and also found the net three times in five Champions League games.
However, the seven-time European champions are down in eighth place in the Italian top flight, 15 points behind joint leaders Atalanta and Napoli.
