Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies will miss today’s Champions League second leg against Arsenal, after being booked in the teams’ quarter-final opener last week.

Davies suspended for quarter-final second leg

A summer target for Real Madrid, Davies incurred a one-match ban for receiving his third yellow card of the European campaign, as Bayern and Arsenal drew 2-2 at the Emirates.

The Germans will also be without forwards Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman in the return leg in Munich, as both have muscle injuries.

When are UCL yellows wiped?

Players’ outstanding yellow cards are expunged after the quarter-finals. A rule brought in ahead of the 2014/15 season, it ensures that footballers cannot be banned for the final unless they are required to serve a suspension for a red card.

Will Ødegaard and Saka play against Bayern?

Arsenal, meanwhile, are sweating on the fitness of Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, who picked up knocks in the Gunners’ weekend Premier League defeat to Aston Villa.

Ødegaard was replaced with 10 minutes remaining on Sunday, with Arteta telling reporters that the team captain “felt something” and “was not able to continue”.

Saka played the full 90 minutes against Villa, but could be seen limping late on.

Hopefully [Ødegaard and Saka will be fit to face Bayern],” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said on Tuesday.

“We’ve had less than 48 hours to recover from the [Villa] game and we’ve had very little training, so we will assess them tomorrow and see how they are.”
