Why isn’t Vinicius Jr playing for Real Madrid against Getafe today in LaLiga?
Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo are all fit to play, but Ballon d’Or contender Vini remains on the sidelines.
Real Madrid were handed a huge boost on Saturday as LaLiga rivals Barcelona suffered a shock home defeat to Las Palmas. If Carlo Ancelotti’s team defeat Getafe at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday (10:15 a.m. ET), they’ll move to within a point of the Catalans, with a game in hand. However, they’ll be missing one of their main attacking threats: Vinicius Jr.
Real Madrid injury update after Liverpool defeat
Los Blancos don’t have their injury problems to seek at the moment. Long-term injury victims Eder Militão, Dani Carvajal and David Alaba have been joined in the treatment room in recent weeks by Aurélien Tchouaméni and Vini. None of the quintet will feature against Getafe.
To make matters worse, midfielder Eduardo Camavinga suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Liverpool and is expected to be absent for two to three weeks.
When will Vinicius Jr be back playing for Madrid?
Vinicius was struck down by a similar muscle issue in last weekend’s LaLiga victory over Leganés, although his initial prognosis was slightly worse. The Brazilian is likely to miss a month of action, which means his on-field 2024 could already be over.
There is, however, also some good news for Ancelotti pre-Getafe. Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Brahim Díaz all shook off knocks picked up at Anfield in time to start, while Rodrygo returns from a thigh injury after a three-game absence.
All four players were selected in the starting lineup by Ancelotti, who will be desperate to avoid more injuries as games continue to come thick and fast.
