Once again, the clásico capitalino between América and Pumas was marred by controversy. Visiting coach Antonio Mohamed expressed his anger with the match officials in his post-game press conference, implying that “a refereeing call decided the match”. After reviewing the case, the Liga MX Disciplinary Committee concluded that the Pumas coach’s conduct breached fair play rules and issued the South American strategist an economic fine

On full-time at the Azteca, El Turco made a gesture towards the Azulcremas bench, suggesting that they had paid the ref (Víctor Cáceres) off. A confrontation ensued but a number of Pumas players intervened to ensure that the fight did not escalate.

Through its official platforms, Liga MX announced in a statement that the former América DT has been dealt an economic fine.

A statement read: “The Disciplinary Commission reports that it decided to financially sanction the technical director of the Universidad Nacional Club, Antonio Mohamed who, during the match and at the press conference at the end of the match between América and Universidad Nacional, engaged in conduct that is detrimental to the Fair Play of sport, to federated fair play in general. UNAM has been warned about the future conduct of its coaching staff, since in the event that this type of actions arise again, the Disciplinary Commission may impose more severe sanctions against them“.

The results leaves Pumas in sixth position overall with 15 points (four wins, three draws and three defeats); América meanwhile top the standings on 21 points. The Auriazules are next in action on Wednesday when they host Querétaro at the Olimpico Universitario.
