Cádiz vs Barcelona was stopped in the second half on Saturday night as an elderly fan in the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla received medical assistance.

The stadium in Cádiz was sent into silence as players and fans alike were left shocked by the incident.

Cádiz goalkeeper Conan Ledesma sprinted to the part of the ground where the spectator needed medical attention to send a defibrillator to those helping. Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo was seen praying on the pitch.

After approximately 15 minutes on the pitch, the referee decided to take both teams off the pitch, where they waited for a decision to be made in their respective dressing rooms.

Barcelona were leading 2-0 when the game was stopped, with second-half goals from Frenkie de Jong and substitute Robert Lewandowski.

Cádiz-Barcelona resumes

The fan who fell ill has since been taken to hospital. The matchday 5 fixture between the sides resumed at 9.05 pm local time (CEST).

Barcelona went on to score two more goals, through Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembélé.
