Will Alexis Vega leave Chivas? Update on player’s future
Vega played no part in Fernando Gago’s first game as Chivas Guadalajara’s new head coach, but appears intent on remaining at Estadio Akron for now.
Alexis Vega is reportedly determined to stay at Chivas Guadalajara for the time being, despite seemingly not being in the plans of Los Rojiblancos’ new head coach, Fernando Gago.
Vega out to stay at Chivas until summer
Vega has been linked with moves to Cruz Azul and former club Toluca ahead of the Liga MX’s Clausura 2024 tournament, but TUDN’s Erick López says the Mexico international wants to see out his Chivas contract.
Signed by Guadalajara in December 2018, Vega is due to become a free agent at the end of June 2024.
On Thursday, the 26-year-old was left out of the matchday squad for Gago’s first game as Chivas boss, a 5-1 friendly win over second-tier Mexican team Atlético La Paz.

During the Apertura 2023 tournament, Vega missed five games in Chivas’ regular-season run-in after being banished from the first-team squad for a disciplinary breach.
Along with Raúl Martínez and Cristian Calderón, he was punished by the club after the trio were reportedly caught sneaking women into the team hotel after Chivas’ 1-1 league draw at Toluca in early October.
The winger later returned to the team in December, making three substitute appearances as the 12-time Mexican champions reached the quarter-finals of the Apertura 2023 playoffs.
Since joining from Toluca, Vega has played 147 times for Chivas, scoring 28 goals and providing 28 assists.
When is Chivas’ first Clausura 2024 game?
Guadalajara, who will be seeking their first Liga MX title since the Clausura 2017 tournament, kick off their Clausura 2024 campaign at home to Santos Laguna on Saturday 13 January.
The match at Estadio Akron is scheduled to begin at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
