CBF president says Ancelotti to lead Brazil at 2024 Copa América
Brazilian Football Confederation chief Ednaldo Rodrigues says Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will be Seleção boss “starting from” next year’s Copa América.
The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, says Carlo Ancelotti will be Brazil’s head coach at the Copa América in 2024.
Speaking as Fernando Diniz was confirmed as the Brazilians’ interim boss on Tuesday, Rodrigues said: “There are many good coaches in Brazil, and Diniz is one of them […]. He’s always followed the same methods and I really like the way he has developed, and the tactical approaches he applies.
“He’s a coach whose style of play is quite similar to that of the coach who will be in charge starting from the Copa América, Ancelotti. They have pretty much the same approach.”
No Brazil confirmation from Ancelotti, Madrid
Ancelotti, who is currently in his second spell as head coach of LaLiga giants Real Madrid, has not said publicly whether he plans to take the Brazil helm. Madrid also have not been drawn on what the future holds for the Italian, who is under contract at the Bernabéu until 30 June 2024.
Hosted by the United States, the 48th edition of the Copa América is to be played from 20 June to 14 July next year. The 2023/24 LaLiga season is due to run until 26 May, while Madrid’s Champions League campaign would finish on 1 June if they got to the final at Wembley.
Brazil job a “dream come true”, Diniz says
Diniz has been handed a one-year deal as Brazil caretaker, as the five-time world champions prepare for the start of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in September.
The 49-year-old, who is also head coach of Brazilian club Fluminense, described his appointment by the Seleção as “a dream come true for anyone, an honour and a real source of pride”.
