Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea could retire from soccer, according to Jamie Jackson of The Guardian.

The decision to hang up his gloves could come about if the former Manchester United player does not receive an offer to become the first-choice goalkeeper at a top club.

Interest from Saudi Arabia

The 32-year-old has rejected several approaches, including from clubs in Saudi Arabia, but he wants to compete for major honors and therefore is taking his time with his next move.

Time at Manchester United

De Gea spent 12 years at Manchester United, where he helped the club win the Premier League, FA Cup, two League Cups and the Europa League. The former Atlético Madrid netminder was also selected for the PFA team of the year on five occasions and picked up United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times.

United replaced De Gea with Cameroon international André Onana, who joined the Old Trafford club from Inter Milan. Onana has had a mixed spell under Erik ten Hag, as the Premier League outfit continue to deal with on and off-the-field issues. Ten Hag’s side suffered a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek.
