Will Diego Valdés be fit for América’s clash with Pumas?

América lost key players Luis Angel Malagón and Diego Valdés in their 1-1 draw against Toluca on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles’ first-choice keeper played the first 45 minutes at the Nemesio Diez and kept a clean sheet, however, he was unable to come on for the second half due to muscular discomfort in his right leg and was replaced by Óscar Jiménez, who would go on to concede just eight minutes into the second half.

Valdés asked to be substituted in the 59th minute and despite not knowing what the injury was, the attacking midfielder could be seen complaining of pain in the groin area. He was able to leave the pitch by himself but is now a doubt for next weekend’s clash with Pumas.

Will they miss the Clásico Capitalino?

At the moment there are still no official statements that show the seriousness of the two players’ situations, however, it is believed that Malagón and Valdés were both taken off merely as a precaution, in a clear attempt to not risk them and have them as close as possible to 100 per cent to face Pumas on Saturday.

The absence of the pair would be a major blow for the Azulcremas due to the role they play in the team. Valdés has scored five goals and provided two assists, and is the most important man in attack for América.
