Will Erick Gutiérrez return to Liga MX to join Chivas Guadalajara?
Mexico international Gutiérrez could leave PSV Eindhoven and sign for Chivas, who are in talks with the 28-year-old midfielder.
Erick Gutiérrez could be set for a return to the Liga MX, with Chivas Guadalajara chasing the Mexico international.
Several reports in the Netherlands, where Gutiérrez plays for PSV Eindhoven, say the midfielder is on the verge of sealing a move back to his home country.
Chivas confirm Gutiérrez talks
AS has received confirmation from Chivas bosses that the 12-time Mexican champions initiated contact with Gutiérrez some weeks ago, and that talks have progressed favourably since then.
The 28-year-old is believed to be keen on a switch to Guadalajara, where he would be reunited with former Pachuca team-mate Víctor Guzmán.
Mexican has fallen out of favour at PSV
Gutiérrez last year signed a contract extension tying him to PSV until 2025, but has become disillusioned with life at the Eredivisie club, having increasingly struggled to earn a place in the team’s starting line-up. Last season, indeed, he started just 13 league games.
It is understood that Gutiérrez’s priority was to stay in Europe, where he has plied his trade since joining PSV in 2018. However, with no firm offers forthcoming on the old continent, Chivas now appear to be well-placed to lure the player back to the Liga MX.
How much would Gutiérrez cost?
Los Rojiblancos are thought to be prepared to pay around €5m for Gutiérrez - half the €10m transfer fee he is believed to have cost PSV five years ago.
