Inter Miami boss Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino says the club won’t be signing former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer this summer.

Navas is set to be available on a free transfer, having confirmed that he is to leave current club Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires at the end of June.

Miami aren’t looking for new goalkeeper - Martino

However, Martino says he’s not looking for an upgrade on Miami’s current No. 1, Drake Callender, who has started all but one of the Herons’ games in MLS and the CONCACAF Champions Cup this season.

“I don’t need to look at [Navas’s] resumé to see that he’s a top keeper,” Martino said before Miami’s 0-0 draw with Orlando City yesterday. “But we’re not thinking about replacing our keeper. We’re not looking to strengthen in the position.”

San Diego linked with Keylor swoop

Although Inter Miami have ruled out a move for Navas, the veteran Costa Rica international could still be on his way to MLS.

According to reports in the US media, the 37-year-old is a target for expansion franchise San Diego FC, who are due to make their debut in the North American league in the 2025 season.

Navas is one of several Europe-based stars who have been tipped to join San Diego. Former Madrid team-mate Sergio Ramos is reportedly close to agreeing a deal with the Californian franchise, while Mexican pair Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa and Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano are also among the players said to be on the team’s radar.

A three-time Champions League winner with Madrid, Navas signed for PSG in 2019, making 113 appearances for the Ligue 1 club. He had fallen out of favour in Paris in recent times, however.

He played just five games for the French champions this season, having spent the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
