Will Kevin De Bruyne return from injury to play against Leeds United?
The Belgian has missed the last two City games after picking up a knock against Arsenal, but could be back in contention this weekend.
Manchester City are still in the hunt for three competitions: Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. In recent months they have looked imperious, but could an unfortunate injury disrupt their momentum?
Kevin De Bruyne was not in the team who beat West Ham United on Wednesday night after picking up a minor injury in the win over Arsenal.
Ahead of the West Ham game, Pep Guardiola said of De Bruyne: “He doesn’t feel good. He has some injury and could not travel.”
“Kevin’s started to move but didn’t train with the team - we have training in a few hours, and we’ll see how they feel,” Guardiola said.
On Wednesday Guardiola hinted that De Bruyne could be back in the squad for Leeds this weekend. Some eagle-eyed City fans even noticed the Belgian in the background of some training ground photographs released by the club, suggesting that he has returned to training.
After being absent for both the West Ham game the previous win against Fulham, his absence would be a massive loss ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures.
City host Leeds United this week and then have a trip to the Santiago Bernabéu next Tuesday for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.
Will Ederson return this weekend?
The other significant absence for City on Wednesday was that of goalkeeper Ederson, who dropped to the bench. Stefan Ortega played in his place and Guardiola confirmed ahead of the game that the Brazilian was in need of a rest.
In his pre-match interview with Sky Sports, Guardiola said he had made the change to allow Ederson “to rest a little bit.”
“So [we have/had] a lot of games. For the mentality, to take a rest is good. We have a lot of confidence with Stefan, and try for everyone to be involved,” he added.
Ederson is therefore expected to return to the starting XI this weekend and De Bruyne is thought to be close; City could have a clean bill of health going into the crucial final month of the season.
