Will Lionel Messi play for Argentina at the Paris 2024 Olympics?
Javier Mascherano has spoken about Messi and the Olympics in 2024.
Lionel Messi is currently enjoying a well-deserved holiday. The Argentine forward will enjoy a few days off before going to Asia with Inter Miami in November. In an interview with EFE, Argentina Under-20 coach Javier Mascherano admitted that he has reached out to Messi regarding a role at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Messi welcome in Paris
“Leo has the doors of the national team open and can do whatever he wants, that’s the reality of it. If he wants to go, if we qualify, he’ll be welcome,” said Mascherano. “First we have to qualify. After that, obviously, we’re going to analyse the option of Leo coming. But there’s no point in getting ahead of ourselves... the reality is that we have to qualify first”.
In a year when the Copa America is being held in the United States, Messi’s participation in the next Olympic Games looks unlikely, much to the relief of Inter Miami. The Argentinian already knows what it is like to win Olympic gold after a narrow victory over Nigeria in the final in Beijing 2008.
A key year for Inter Miami
David Beckham’s MLS club’s plan is to continue to strengthen in the transfer window, with the possible signing of former Barcelona striker and good friend of Messi, Luis Suárez.
