Will Mourinho leave Roma?

Roma head coach José Mourinho has been rumored to be leaving Roma, and he touched on the subject ahead of their Europa League final against Sevilla.

José Mourinho spoke about the potential of stepping down as head coach of Roma after just two years with the Serie A team. Ahead of their Europa League final against Sevilla, he was asked if he would do what he did on 2010, when he won the Champions League with Inter Milan and then quit to join Real Madrid. However, if he does step down, it won’t be to join Madrid, as current head coach Carlo Ancelotti plans to stay put next season.

Still though, Mourinho did not say he wouldn’t leave...but he didn’t say he would either. What he did say is that he has made a decision and told at least one person what it is - midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.

“My captains have asked me the same question and I spoke very frankly with them,” said Mourinho. “I don’t want them to say what we told each other because it’s something between me and my team, but they know exactly what my position here is.”

So, he didn’t say he was leaving, but that does sound quite a bit like a hint at it. Though he also mentioned he has no club lined up if he does leave this time around.

There is a big difference between now and when I was at Inter, because even though I hadn’t signed a contract with Real Madrid, everything was done,” said Mourinho. “At this moment in time I have had no contract with any other club, so very different.”

“And right now it is about us, us and this final, and that is the only thing we concentrate on. Sevilla have an incredible history in this competition”

Sevilla vs AS Roma: how to watch

If Roma wins the Europa League final tonight, it would be Mourinho’s sixth continental title, which would make him the most decorated manager in the history of major European competition.
