Update:

Today’s Premier League clash between arch rivals Liverpool and Manchester United will go ahead, despite adverse weather conditions.

The matchday-20 game at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium, which is scheduled for kick-off at 4:30 local time (11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT), had been placed in doubt by heavy snowfall in the city and the surrounding region.

“Safe for fans to attend”

After a final safety meeting at 12 noon local time (7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT), both clubs and the Premier League have confirmed that the game will be played.

In a statement, Liverpool said: “Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.

We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.”

United, meanwhile, said: “There have been snowfall and weather warnings across the North West on Sunday but it has been deemed safe for fans to attend."

Liverpool out to stretch lead at top of EPL

Liverpool host Manchester United sitting top of the Premier League, with a five-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. What’s more, the Reds have two games in hand on the Gunners, who drew 1-1 with Brighton yesterday.

United, meanwhile, are currently languishing down in 14th in the table, having lost five of their last six league games under new boss Rúben Amorim.
