Worker dies in first fatal accident during Camp Nou renovation
An operator aged 54 died this Friday after receiving a blow while working on the renovation of the new stadium.
A 54‑year‑old construction worker died Friday after being struck while working on the massive renovation of Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou — the first fatal workplace accident since the overhaul began in June 2023.
Police in Barcelona’s Les Corts district received the emergency call around 9:30 a.m. ET (3:30 p.m. local time). According to the Mossos d’Esquadra, the worker suffered a severe blow while performing tasks inside the stadium’s construction zone. Emergency medical teams rushed to the site but were unable to save his life.
The Camp Nou rebuild — one of Europe’s largest ongoing stadium projects — has involved thousands of workers and recently reached major structural milestones, including completion of the new third tier and work on a compression ring that will support the future roof.
Following established protocol, authorities notified the on‑call magistrate and Catalonia’s Department of Business and Labor. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
