World Cup 2026

Will Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro play in the World Cup final? Spain injury update

Neither Lamine nor Porro trained with the group during Spain’s first session in New Jersey, as La Roja prepares for this weekend’s final against Argentina.

Stretched out on the grass at Spain’s training facility in New Jersey, just a short distance from the venue that will host Sunday’s 2026 World Cup final, Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro did not practice with the group on Thursday, during La Roja’s first workout in the Garden State ahead of their showdown with Argentina.

At this stage, both Porro and Lamine - who was sporting a bandage on his left thigh - are expected to be available for Luis de la Fuente this weekend. The decision not to include them in Thursday’s session was part of the coaching staff’s workload management plan.

What Spain’s boss has said about Lamine and Porro

Following Tuesday’s 2-0 semifinal win over France, De la Fuente acknowledged that Porro was dealing with a minor complaint. “He has some muscle tightness,” the Spain head coach revealed.

As for Lamine, who was seen limping postgame, De la Fuente insisted the young star had suffered “nothing” of note. Even so, the physical toll of his battle with Lucas Digne and Theo Hernández was evident the following day. The bumps and bruises were only natural after such an intense contest. The objective is clear: ensure the No. 19, like the rest of the squad, is as fresh as possible for the final.

Otherwise, at least during the 15 minutes of training open to the media, everything unfolded normally. Rodri shared a warm embrace with goalkeeping coach Miguel Ángel España, while Aymeric Laporte chatted with Gavi, and Lamine with Fabián Ruiz.

Conditions in New Jersey are hot, with temperatures hovering around 85°F, accompanied by significant humidity. Spain’s players have three days to adjust to the weather, particularly the heat and moisture in the air, as the match at MetLife Stadium will be only their second outdoor game of the tournament.
