Since taking over Wrexham AFC in 2020, the lower league Welsh team owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has become a global phenomenon and much of this success is boosted with the two editions of the FX/Disney Plus documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ with season three in the works.

After last season’s sporting success which saw the Red Dragons abandon the non-league football pyramid, Wrexham are now in English soccer’s League Two (which is the fourth tier, behind the Premier League, the Championship and League One), and the team is flying high in second place as they aim for a second promotion in a row.

Despite the club’s focus centred on securing a consecutive promotion, the club are also planning activity for the off-season as they confirm that there will be both a male and female Wrexham team at The Soccer Tournament (TST) seven-a-side competition which kicks off in North Carolina next June.

A Wrexham Red Dragons’ team will play at the competition with the inclusion of both men’s and women’s sides making Wrexham AFC become the first professional club to be represented in both of TST’s events.

Italian side Como 1907, the UK’s Hashtag United, NWSL side North Carolina Courage, former Portugal great Nani’s team are represented through Nani FC and a USWNT side are the confirmed participants to date with the tournament scheduled for June 5-10 at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary, North Carolina.

The Wrexham teams aka The Wrexham Red Dragons team will include club legends as well as some first-team players and guests with one million dollars of prize money available in each competition.
