A sensational late comeback secured a point for Wrexham as they fought back from three goals down to draw 5-5 with Swindon Town.

The Racecourse Ground was packed for the team’s second home league fixture since returning to the Football League. The expectant crowd was made to suffer in the opening stages as four first half goals for Swindon gave the visitors a 4-1 lead at the break.

The hosts, who have gained a global following after the success of Amazon’s ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, were not to be deterred and they staged an incredible late comeback.

Wrexham were losing 5-3 at the end of the 90 minutes but injury time goals from James Jones and Elliot Lee snatched an important point.

Ben Foster endures tough start in League Two

In their incredible title-winning National League campaign Wrexham conceded just 43 times in 46 games. Since promotion to League Two they have let in 13 goals in just four matches, highlighting the step-up in quality in the Football League.

To get them over the line last season Wrexham brought in former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster, who added crucial experience and Premier League quality. Now aged 40, Foster is still in goal for Wrexham but he has endured a tough start to the season.

As it stands, they have conceded more and scored more than any other team in the division. It may not be the most successful start to the season but it will certainly make for exciting viewing.
