Xavi says Messi “generates hope” for Barcelona
As rumors fly about a possible Lionel Messi return to Barcelona, fans, and even coach Xavi Hernández, are getting excited about the possibility.
The Barcelona fans are perhaps getting ahead of themselves with excitement at the possibility of a Lionel Messi return. During Barcelona’s game against Girona on Monday, the fans chanted Messi’s name, the second game in which they’ve done so in five days. As Messi’s contract comes to an end with Paris Saint-Germain this summer, hope is stronger than ever that he could be making a return to the place where it all began.
Xavi admits Messi brings hope
When Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández was asked about the Messi chants, he admitted that the Argentinian brings hope to the team.
“The fans appreciate where we are,” Xavi said. “But we are missing the title. Leo generates hope. They have been chanting his name for two games. But we’ll see. We need to focus on this season... we have to win La Liga.”
Of course, Messi left Barcelona in the first place due to financial issues within the club, and it’s not as if those problems have been fully solved. Messi could also potentially remain with PSG if they come to an agreement, or even head to Miami to play for MLS.
