Last summer, Xavi Simons left PSG due to a lack of playing opportunities with the first team. The Dutch midfielder, considered one of the most promising players in European football at the moment, signed for PSV Eindhoven where he has enjoyed the full confidence of Ruud van Nistelrooy since Day One. In Holland, the 19-year-old has been able to develop his talent and is now a fundamental piece in Van Nistelrooy’s side.

However, PSG retained a repurchase option for Simons that it could execute as long as both parties agreed. The Ligue 1 champions could recover the player for a fee of between 10 and 12 million euros this summer. The fee will rise if PSG wait another year and the buy-back clause will be annulled if PSV offer Xavi a contract extension - his currently deal runs until June 2027.

In recent weeks, rumours have been circulating that Simons could possibly return Paris, but the reality is that, right now, that doesn’y appear to be a viable option.

According to reports by L’Équipe, Xavi Simons is prioritizing his new adventure in Holland rather than returning to PSG. The Dutch international is aware that regressing to the French capital would not guarantee him regular playing time - which he is getting at the moment under Van Nisterooy. He would only consider returning if the club guarantees him minutes and continuity. In the meantime, PSG are mulling over whether to trigger the buy-back clause, although the chances of that materializing are slim.

This season, Amsterdam-born midfielder has played 37 games in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing nine assists. His performances earned him a trip to the World Cup in Qatar, receiving the call-up from Louis Van Gaal and playing his first minutes with the Netherlands. While things are going so well at PSV, he has no desire to return to his old club.
