Yon de Luisa will continue to lead the FMF

Despite the recent results, the director will remain in his position and will lead the project preparing for the 2026 World Cup.

Yon de Luisa: “Si nos toca jugar con Francia y Dinamarca, más allá del resultado, para mí es un éxito”

After the earthquake that was the elimination of the Mexico National Team in the World Cup in Qatar 2022, the waters have calmed and everything points to Yon da Luisa continuing as director of the Mexican Football Federation. His role is to spearhead the project that is aimed towards the 2026 World Cup, which for the first time in history will have three host nations, Mexico, the United States and Canada

According to the information issued by TUDN, it was reported that the director will remain in a leadership role within the organisation, thereby ignoring all the criticism that surrounded him following his support of ex-Tri boss, Tata Martino, who guided Mexico to their worst finish at a World Cup in over 2 decades.

It should be noted that De Luisa carries great political weight in the FIFA environment, as he is a member of the Executive Committee and has many contacts in the field, in addition to the fact that it is a FIFA position which a Mexican had not held for a long time, with Guillermo Cañedo being the last example.

In the report released in the TUDN information programme, it was highlighted that the national team still does not have a manager after the failure of Martino in the competition; the favourite continues to be Miguel Herrera.

It was also said that the former Club América man is the favourite of several former presidents of the Mexican Soccer Federation. He has reportedly applied for the position, but up to now has not presented a project to promote his candidacy for the position of manager.

It should be noted that Miguel Herrera took over the national team at the end of 2013, qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil via the playoffs, where he was on the verge of making history with incredible football against the Netherlands in the round of 16.

Shortly after, Herrera would leave the national team due to his explosive character when he attacked the TV Azteca commentator at an airport terminal in the United States.
