Update:

Fox Sports has added another stellar name to its broadcast team for this summer’s World Cup, striking a deal to bring legendary former player Zlatan Ibrahimovic on board.

The Swedish star was announced by Fox on Tuesday, confirming that he will be a full-time TV studio Analyst for the tournament. Ibrahimovic is widely considered one of the greatest strikers of his generation and has an enigmatic off-the-field persona that is just as iconic.

“He was at the top of the list of people we wanted to take swings at for this World Cup,” Fox Sports president Brad Zager said, according to The Athletic. “We put a blank slate on the board, thinking some were longshots and guys who have worked with us in the past and a lot of stuff in between. And Zlatan was one that there was no reason to not take a swing and see if he would be willing to do this.”

“I think that was actually a cool part of the process,” Zager said, explainer the conversations with Ibrahimovic. “He was so detail-oriented about if he is going to do this, he’s going to be good.”

Fox Sports had already announced that Thierry Henry and host Rebecca Lowe will be joining the team for the tournament. Reports suggest that David Beckham and Jurgen Klopp have also been pursued by the network, who are eager to make a mark with their coverage.

Ibrahimovic played for the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and LA Galaxy during a 25-year career. He racked up 34 trophies during the course of his career, and is one of few players in soccer history to have scored 500 club goals.
