Zlatan Ibrahimović is set to leave AC Milan at the end of his contract, which expires in June, report Foot Mercato in France. Milan reportedly have no intention of giving the 41-year-old a contract extension which would see him leave the club where he lifted the Serie A title last season.

Ibrahimović has only featured in four Serie A games this season, playing a total of 144 minutes and has struggled with injury.

His penalty against Udinese last month - and only goal of the season - saw the Swedish striker become the oldest-ever goalscorer in Serie A, at the age of 41 years and 166 days, surpassing the record held since May 2007 by Alessandro Costacurta (41 years and 25 days), who also scored for Milan in a match against Udinese.

“After winning the Scudetto with Milan I could have quit”

Ibrahimović has enjoyed a fabulous career spanning more than two decades and the Sweden international will turn 42 in October. “When everyone says it’s enough, it doesn’t work. That’s when I get an adrenaline rush,” he said in March while on international duty with Sweden.

“I just want to keep going. After winning the Scudetto with Milan I could have quit, but it would have been too easy. Nor was it a conclusion that suited me.

“I want to go forward, I want to challenge myself. I don’t give up. Challenges give me adrenaline. Even you journalists, since I was young, have written and said about me that I was too different, messy, self-centred. Everything. You have helped me and you are still doing it. I always have this desire inside me to show those who doubt that they are wrong.”
