Inter Miami fans react to Messi signing
It’s unanimous: the Inter Miami fans are ecstatic to have Lionel Messi joining their team when his contract with PSG expires.
Lionel Messi confirmed on Wednesday that he will sign with MLS team Inter Miami and the fans in Miami are ecstatic.
“Hopefully it brings more fan support, more eyes to the league,” said one fan. “I know it’s already opened itself up to a couple other leagues. I’ve seen some tweets from some big players in different leagues around the world, so hopefully it gets the MLS going. I mean, we’ve been around for a while, but we kind of need a little kick. So hopefully Messi will bring that.”
“I just think he’s going to bring more passion to the Miami soccer game,” said another fan. “I feel like some people watch Miami soccer, but I think now even more people are going to be really excited to come and even [international] fans are going to come.”
Another fan attributed the recent success of other Miami sports teams as a possible reason why Messi chose to come.
“I think with the [Miami] Heat and the [Florida] Panthers, even UM [University of Miami] sports,” he said. “A whole lot of good sports is going down in South Florida right now.”
The Panthers play in Game 3 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final on Friday and the Heat play in Game 4 of the NBA Finals this Friday.
