“Learn how to respect!” -Djokovic tells off loud British fans

The crowd of noisy British fans started banging on drums during Novak Djokovic’s on-court interview after defeating Cameron Norrie, and it set him off.

Novak Djokovic defeated Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4, closing out Serbia’s victory over Great Britain. But during his on-court interview, the British fans got quite loud, banging drums while Djokovic was speaking, which did not sit well with him. He yelled at the fans to be quiet and accused them of being disrespectful.

“Learn some respect, learn how to behave yourselves,” he shouted. “No, you shut up! You be quiet!”

The tension had been building since Djokovic’s first set, when he put his hand to his ear and blew a kiss at some of the fans sitting behind the Great Britain bench.

“The entire match, pretty much, [they showed] disrespect, but again, that’s something I kind of have to be prepared for,” Djokovic said in his post match press conference. “They can do whatever they want, but I’m going to respond to that. That’s what happened. And in the end, for whoever was there, you saw, I was trying to talk and they were purposely starting to play the drums so that I don’t talk and they were trying to annoy me the entire match. So, yeah, we had a little bit of a chat in the end.”
