Security guard at Taylor Swift concert fired for asking fan to take photos

Calvin Decker, a security guard who worked the Eras Tour, went viral for singing during Taylor Swift’s show, but was fired for asking a fan to take a photo.

How do you get free tickets to a Taylor Swift concert? Just become a security guard and work her show! Just know that you may not actually get to see her perform, or get any photos from it. If you’re lucky though, you might just get a viral video taken of you singing along, and if you’re clever, you might find a way to get those photos in which you happen to appear in from fans.

That’s what happened to Calvin Decker, who was posted on TikTok singing along to “Cruel Summer” during Swift’s Minneapolis show in June. He also attempted to get a photo of himself with T-Swift behind him by writing a note to a fan and passing it to them.

“After night one, I was realizing how close Taylor Swift was getting to me, so I really wanted to get a photo to document it. So I handed down these little pieces of paper that said I wasn’t allowed to have my phone out, but if Taylor Swift comes right behind me, please take a photo of me and text it to my number,” said Decker. “And I handed this out to a couple of people in the front row for night two and they were really kind and really sweet about it.”

In a follow-up video to the viral TikTok, Decker updated that he had been fired for that move, but was still pleased to have the viral video as a lasting memory, and says he holds no hard feelings towards the company who fired him.
