Update:

Donald Trump arrived in Manhattan to take his seat in the courtroom after being accused of falsifying business records in order to cover up an alleged sexual encounter with porn star Stormy Daniels. On his way in, Trump told the press that the whole trial is “an assault on America” and repeatedly said that nothing has ever happened like this before. He is technically right about that. Trump is the first ex-president of the United States to stand criminal trial in the history of the country.

The “hush-money” trial he’s testifying against on Monday, which includes 34 counts of falsifying business records, is just one of four criminal cases for which Trump stands trial. Others include the mishandling of classified information and for playing a significant role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol. If he is convicted, Trump could face up to four years in prison.

Trump denies the charges and says the alleged sexual encounter with Stormy Daniels, as well as another encounter with a Playboy model which he allegedly had covered up, never happened. Even if Trump is convicted, he will be able to appeal and even still allowed to continue his run for the presidency. If elected, it would still stand regardless of a guilty charge. His other three criminal cases are facing delays.
