VIDEO: City fans abandoned vehicles to walk to Atatürk Olympic Stadium
The traffic is so bad getting into Atatürk Olympic Stadium for the UCL final that some Manchester City fans have had to leave their cars and walk.
Imagine you’ve got tickets to the Champions League Final in Istanbul, Turkey to see your team play for the title. Now, imagine you’re on your way to the stadium but get stuck in traffic so bad it threatens your shot at actually seeing the game as kickoff time ticks closer and closer. What would you do?
Chaos ahead of UCL final
That’s the situation some fans found themselves in heading into the Champions League Final on the way to Atatürk Olympic Stadium to watch Manchester City and Inter Milan compete for the title. The traffic was so backed up that several fans just abandoned their vehicles and started walking or jogging, with miles still to go to arrive at the stadium.
Unfortunately, public transport wasn’t much better, with services being completely locked up with so many fans arriving at once. TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook tweeted a picture from a crowded train car sitting still with the caption, “Roads gridlocked and metro rammed (this is one of the quieter ones).”
Several fans said that the trip took nearly two hours via public transport, with buses stuck in the traffic as well. Some metro riders had a slightly better experience, despite having to make transfers, as that journey took around an hour and a half, though some others reported around two hours as well.
The drama didn’t stop once fans arrived to the stadium either. There were long lines, lack of available bathrooms, and a fire in a nearby warehouse causing backups and complaints from fans.
