WATCH: French man sets himself on fire and two World Records
Jonathan Vero has been called “the human torch” after setting two Guiness World records on Thursday for running while on fire.
A French man named Jonathan Vero has set two Guinness World Records for longest and fastest run while on fire. On Thursday, 39-year-old Vero was lit on fire by friends (in a protective suit) and ran a 272.25-meter dash around a track, all the while deprived of oxygen.
Dubbed “the human torch”, Vero broke the Guinness World Record for the longest distance full body burn run without oxygen by 68.02 meters as well as the record for the fastest full body burn 100 meter spring without oxygen with a total time of 17 seconds - 7.58 seconds faster than the previous record.
Vero is a firefighter and said the record was meaningful to him, but he will not stop there. There are still other fire-related records this pyromaniac would like to break in his lifetime.
“Here, I’m considered a ‘paradox’, even a ‘cheater of death’”, said Vero. “And I think that in the months to come, these descriptors will take on their full meaning.”
