Watch: Jill Biden’s Christmas video drawing criticism online

First Lady Jill Biden posted the annual White House Christmas video to X, featuring dancers in bright costumes prancing around the White House.

Well, the annual White House Christmas video posted by the First Lady was not everyone’s cup of tea this year. This year’s theme is “Magic, Wonder, and Joy”, and Jill Biden posted this video to X on Wednesday night with this caption:

A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite. Enjoy!”

The Dorrance Dancers are a tapdancing group from New York City and in the video, they dance throughout the halls of the White House, showing off how each room is decorated for Christmas while wearing costumes that have been compared to “The Hunger Games” movies.

Jill Biden’s Christmas video receives major criticism

Many have criticized the video for not really capturing the true meaning of Christmas and compared it to Melania Trump’s Christmas video, despite the fact that she was caught on tape saying “who gives a f*** about Christmas stuff and decorations?”. Amongst the many unkind comments on Dr. Biden’s video, there were several saying it was “bizarre” and “strange”, and one even said, “Looks like the WH switched from cocaine to acid,” a reference to the discovery of cocaine at the executive mansion earlier this year.

Dr. Biden explained that she wanted the White House to make people feel like a kid again and that the whimsical decorations were meant to inspire the feelings of wonder and joy surrounding Christmastime as a child. On the public floors, there are references to the poem, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” in honor of the 200th anniversary of its publication.

In the foyer are papier-mâché reindeer, suspended from the ceiling. “It’s like they’re leaping from the storybook’s pages,” said BIden. “I don’t know how you feel about it. I feel it’s just breathtaking.”

National Guard families joined Dr. Biden in her Joining Forces initiative to support family members of those in the military. They were some of the first members of the public to see the Christmas decorations. Military family members and children were able to see a performance by the cast of the North American tour of “Frozen”, the musical. The Christmas tree in the White House entrance is decorated with wooden ornaments in the shape of a star, which have engraved in them the names of fallen service members.
