Watch: Mark Hoppus’ telling words just before Blink 182 concert was canceled

Blink 182 was scheduled to perform several nights in Mexico, but the lead singer’s comment about the doctor could have predicted the cancellation.

On April 2, Blink 182 held their first of four scheduled concerts in Mexico City. During that show at the Palacio de los Deportes, Tom Delonge told the crowd that lead singer Mark Hoppus wasn’t feeling well and that they would have to help him sing.

In that moment, Hoppus came on the microphone with a scratchy voice and said this: “I’m so sorry, I’m so sick! The doctor said I’m not even supposed to f•••ing be here tonight.” He told the audience that for him, it was worth it to be on stage performing for them despite how horrible he said he was feeling.

“Even though I’m sick as s***, I feel like I’m dying up here, I’m happy to be dying with you.”

The next night, the concert was canceled, citing illness among the band members as the reason. During their first show, not only was Hoppus dealing with throat issues, but DeLonge also left the stage several times to catch his breath. Refunds were given to those who purchased tickets to Wednesday night’s show. As of now, the concerts scheduled for April 5 and 6 will go on as planned.
