Watch the Netflix trailer of ‘Maestro’: Bradley Cooper directs and plays the role of Leonard Bernstein

More than five years after film was announced, the first full-length trailer of ‘Maestro’ has finally been released. Bradley Cooper has agreed to direct and feature as lead in the movie, starring opposite Carey Mulligan.

The nine-time Academy Award winner stars as Leonard Bernstein, the celebrated American conductor, composer and author. Bernstein lived a fascinating life right up to his death in 1990 and the upcoming biographical drama looks to cast fresh light on his marriage to Felicia Montealegre.

What is the release date for ‘Maestro’?

The film was given the title ‘Maestro’ in September 2020, shortly after the project was moved to Netflix. The streaming platform has looked to focus increasingly on original productions and filming began in 2021.

As it stands, ‘Maestro’ is set to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on 2 September 2023. The film is then slated for theatrical release on 22 November, and is expected to be available to stream on Netflix from 20 December.

Last year Cooper revealed that he had pushed Steven Spielberg, who was originally attached to the film, to let Cooper take over as director.

Cooper said that he asked Spielberg: “‘I always felt like I could play a conductor, but may I research the material and see if I can write it and direct it? Would you let me do that?’”

“Steven has a lot of interests,” Cooper explained, “He’ll just choose one thing and all of the other things will be on hold. I think he knew he wasn’t going to make that movie for a while.”

“He was kind enough to hand it off to me, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last four and a half years, and we start shooting in May.”
