What did Cam Newton say about Dak Prescott?

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has gone viral for his shocking comments on Dak Prescott and other quarterbacks in the league with fans on X quick to criticize.

In an episode of “4th and 1 with Cam Newton”, the former NFL star shared his thoughts on some of the league’s current top quarterbacks. He said that he considers Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to be elite, but some others...not so much.

Newton said there was a difference between “game managers” and “game changers”, saying that in his opinion, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, Steelers QB Brock Purdy, Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, and Lions QB Tua Tagovailoa are not “difference-makers”.

“But Brock, they’re not winning because of him,” said Newton. “He’s not turning the ball over. He’s managing the game. And if we were to put that in its own right, as game managers, Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jared Goff, and really, Dak Prescott...these are game managers. They’re not difference makers.

Newton went on to explain that those quarterbacks are not responsible for winning, but rather managing the team so that they don’t lose and minimizing mistakes. Social media users were quick to critcize Newton’s opinion, considering Prescott is now the NFL’s leaders in passing touchdowns with 3,505 passing yards and 28 touchdowns to just six interceptions (a 1.3% decrease from last year).

Harsh comments in return for harsh comments. But it’s no surprise coming from Newton, who has not been shy about speaking controversial (and let’s be honest, arrogant) thoughts lately, claiming recently that he would play for the Jets only if he was making more than backup quarterback salary. “I’m not about to sit up there and sign no $5.5 million deal, bro.”
