What did Kim Mulkey say about LSU players’ absence during national anthem?

LSU players sparked controversy when they left the court ahead of the national anthem in the Elite 8. Coach Kim Mulkey says it was “nothing intentional”.

LSU has come under fire after posts on social media showed their side of the court empty while the national anthem played ahead of the NCAA Elite Eight game against Iowa. LSU went on to lose 95-87.

LSU coach Kim Mulkey apologized after the game, defending that she “didn’t even know when the anthem was played”.

“We kind of have a routine when they’re on the floor and they come off at the 12-minute mark,” said Mulkey, looking somewhat flustered. “I don’t know, we come in and we do our pregame stuff. I’m sorry, listen, that’s nothing intentionally done.” Despite the reasoning, it was not well-received, gaining many negative comments on social media.
