REAL MADRID

Alarm bells ringing: Modric is out of the trip to Levante

The Croatian suffered a knock in the Madrid derby which means that he will miss the next game away to Levante. Marcelo and Benzema are also out injured.

Another key injury for Madrid to deal with ahead of their visit to the Ciutat de València to play Levante which just adds to the general gloom - some are calling a crisis - following the defeat to Atlético in the local derby. Zidane will be without Luka Modric who did not train in Valdebeas on Tuesday morning with his teammates. The club has confirmed that Modric doesn't have a muscle injury, but has taken a blow to his left ankle and several stitches were required to deal with the cut. On Monday he did some light work on the pitch and he spent Tuesday morning in the gym.

So, Modric is just another missing piece of the Real Madrid puzzle that Zidane needs to replace with Marcelo (sprained calf muscle) and Benzema (hamstring) also on the sidelines. One player who is able to come back in is the lesser-spotted Arbeloa, having recovered from a sprain that kept him out of contention for the derby.

In light of the increasing sick notes, Tuesday's training session included youngsters Odegaard, Llorente and Marcos Borja Mayoral, the latter of whom is likely still to be feeling bouyant after starting to get his chance in the first team.
