Bernardo Silva returns “where he belongs” after Real Madrid transfer, says former Manchester City teammate

Bernardo Silva is one of Real Madrid’s marquee signings of the summer, and the Portuguese midfielder is finally set to begin work under José Mourinho.

The former Manchester City star will train with his new teammates for the first time on Monday, just as Mourinho revealed in a recent update on his squad’s preseason preparations.

“I’m concerned about not having the others here yet,” Mourinho said after the friendly draw against Fiorentina. “I’d also like to have three full weeks with everyone, but that’s not possible. On Monday, Vinícius, Brahim, and Bernardo Silva arrive. Dumfries, Carlos, and Endrick have already had more days of training, and then we’ll gradually get the rest of the squad back.”

Bernardo Silva finally gets his move to Spain

Bernardo Silva had long decided that his next chapter would be in Spain after bringing his successful spell at Manchester City to an end.

Before agreeing to join Real Madrid, the Portugal international held talks with both Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. However, Madrid acted quickly after Mourinho identified Silva as a priority signing, completing the deal within hours and beating both rivals to his signature.

Those at Manchester City know exactly what they’re losing, and Bernardo is determined to prove he can continue performing at the highest level in LaLiga.

Gvardiol: “Bernardo is back where he belongs”

Former Manchester City teammate Josko Gvardiol admitted the Premier League champions will feel Silva’s absence.

Speaking to The Athletic, Gvardiol said: “We were very close. How much have we lost? We will find out when we regroup at the start of the season. Bernardo is back where he belongs — he talked about Spain for a long, long time!”

Mourinho sees Silva as a key Madrid piece

Mourinho is eagerly awaiting Bernardo Silva’s arrival and views him as a central figure in his new-look Real Madrid midfield.

The Portuguese coach also values Silva’s versatility, knowing he can influence games both as a midfielder and on the right side of the attack, giving Madrid another tactical option heading into the new season.
