Devastating Suárez averaging 1.06 goals a game this term

Barcelona's 7-0 Copa del Rey victory over Valencia on Wednesday, with four from Luis Suárez and three for Leo Messi, saw their goal tally this season surge upwards once again, as the Azulgranas begin to edge closer to their total from last year.

Luis Enrique's men are on 105 in all competitions this term, having notched up a spectacular return of 175 in 2014/15, with 122 coming courtesy of their big-name attacking trio: 58 for Leo Messi, 39 for Neymar and 25 for Luis Suárez.

And the scoring form being shown by Suárez, a player in the midst of a sparkling campaign, is particularly outstanding. As if seeking to prove a point following his absence from the finalists at January's Ballon d'Or gala, the Uruguayan's four-goal salvo (his first since doing so for Liverpool against Norwich City in December 2013) took his haul this season to 35 in 33 appearances: a deadly average of 1.06 per game.

The 29-year-old has been the main man for the 'MSN' in front of goal this year, leading Messi on 24 (who was out injured for two months) and Neymar on 21 - but was in modest mood after the final whistle at the Camp Nou, congratulating the Argentine on surpassing 500 strikes as a professional footballer and crediting "the whole team" for the thumping win over Valencia.

Barcelona are averaging 2.61 goals in 2015/16 and sit 70 shy of the 175 racked up during their treble-winning campaign. They have a guaranteed 21 fixtures left to play this season (17 in La Liga, almost certainly two in the Copa, and their Champions League last-16 tie with Arsenal), so overhauling the total is by no means a straightforward task.

Meanwhile, for Messi, Suárez and Neymar, currently on 80 between them, there is the challenge of bettering their combined 14/15 return.

And if Suárez and his partners in crime continue to turn in the type of attacking display that they delivered against Gary Neville's side, you wouldn't bet against them pulverising that tally.
