'Cheapskate' Casillas: "You've got crocodiles in your pockets!"

'Tacaño' they say in Spanish: mean, miserly, tight as a Scottish accountant: TV presenter Bertín Osborne called Casillas out on his reputation as a pennypincher, also getting the inside story from ex-Real madrid and Spain captain Fernando Hierro and Spanish pop star Alejandro Sanz: "If he has a reputation for being 'tacaño', then it has to come from somewhere", said the singer.

At the beginning of the program, Casillas says to Osborne on the motorway: "I need a euro, let's see if I have one on me", the presenter says "I'd offer you one but I didn't bring my wallet", the footballer suggested that they turn around, get off the motorway and take the long way 'round on secondary roads to avoid paying the toll, but Bertín was having none of it: "Get your euro out, your friends have warned me about you, you've got crocodiles in your pockets".

Bertín also interrogates Casillas about a famous story on how Fernando Hierro once gave him 5,000 pesetas (approximately 30 euros) to take a taxi home and he kept the money and took the metro back to his house in Mostoles, which is in the south of Madrid, a good 40 minute drive from the centre of the city. "Fernando Hierro has got some neck, he's always saying that", says Casillas in the interview.

Hierro claims that some time later one of Iker's teammates told him that Casillas kept the cash and took a cheeky metro home. "Now whenever I see him I try and give him 30 euros to try and get him to shut up about that money he gave me for the taxi".
