Keylor Navas keen to stay at Real Madrid and wants more money
The Costa Rican has quickly become a fan favourite since joining Los Blancos and is now asking for €4.4 million net a year, what he would have earned had he gone to Man United.
Keylor Navas is keen to stay on at Real Madrid. The Costa Rican’s mindset has not changed since last summer’s David De Gea debacle, and the recurring rumours linking the Spanish goalkeeper to the club again this year do not seem to have rattled him either. Outwardly the Central American shot-stopper has remained calm throughout the tumultuous goings-on between Man United and Real Madrid on 31 August 2015 and has earned plaudits for being one of Los Blancos’ stellar performers this season. His strong showings between the sticks have resulted in him now wanting his salary to increase to 4.4 million euros net per year.
Navas’ wage demands are by no means excessive. What he is asking for is what he would have earned had the swap deal with Manchester United gone through as planned last year. The former Levante man is currently on half that amount and is hopeful his eye-catching displays will have convinced the Madrid board to sign off on his pay rise.
“I just keep my head down and work hard so good things will come my way”, the 29-year-old reiterates whenever he’s asked about his take-home pay. At the moment his primary focus is next week’s Champions League final in Milan.
In truth, Navas has come to Real Madrid’s rescue on numerous occasions since signing for the club. He has made 44 appearances, kept 22 cleansheets and has only shipped 30 goals all season, an average of 0.68 per game. Iker Casillas only managed to better that return during in 2014-15 (0.50), when the Spaniard was a starter in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League but was the second choice in La Liga. The Mostolés native’s best goal average while playing in all three competitions came in 2010-11 (0.74). De Gea conceded 0.97 goals per game on average this season with the Red Devils.
